We love us some good eyewear here at Grazia Daily. Not just because we like to imagine ourselves like Victoria Beckham, emerging flawless from yet ANOTHER long-haul flight in oversized shades, oh no. It's also because we know that good glasses - both sunnies and opticals - can totally make or break a look.
One of our favourite eyewear labels, Oliver Peoples (which celebrates 25 years of high fashion eyewear in 2012) has just released their new campaign, which utilizes some of Hollywood’s freshest talent, in the form of Dakota Johnson and Thomas McDonell. Dakota follows the likes of Zooey Deschanel, Elijah Wood and Devandra Banhart by taking centre stage in their ‘Float’ ad campaign and accompanying video. Dakota, of course, is a the youngest star in one of Hollywood’s leading dynasties - her mother is Melanie Griffith, her father is Don Johnson, and her grandmother is Tippi Hedren, the celebrated 60s star soon to be played by Sienna Miller in ‘The Girl’, and who, it has been suggested, is one of the influences behind Mad Men’s Betty Draper.
So, what do you need to know about this soon-to-be star? Well, Dakota has starred in '21 Jump Street' and 'The Social Network', and is set to appear in 'Five Year Engagement' before the end of this year. Previously the face of Mango denim, she is joined by another up-and-comer in the campaign, the (COMPLETELY gorgeous) Thomas McDonell, actor-slash-artist-slash-musician, who is set to appear as the young Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s ‘Shadows’ later this year. That, we can TOTALLY see.
Dakota said that she ‘couldn't be happier to be a part of this’ and that ‘working with such an amazing group of people on a campaign that represents both the art and intellect of the Oliver Peoples brand’ was something she was particularly excited about. The creative mind behind the campaign, Oliver Peoples Michelle Walnum, meanwhile, said that ‘Dakota and Thomas were a great pair to illustrate the feeling we were after, Dakota's all-American kind of beauty is what initially caught my eye, and, like our brand, her Hollywood heritage runs deep so the partnership made perfect sense. I knew that her and Thomas would be perfect together.’
