If we ask somebody for directions, we don't want to hear the words 'you can't get there from here.' We prefer the direction-giver to be more imaginative and helpful. So, when we receive concise, helpful instructions, we feel reassured that somebody knows what they're talking about. You might need to be selective about who you ask for input or advice.
