Hormel Just Released a New Bacon We Never Saw Coming
Breakfast just got even sweeter.
The year is far from over and we’ve already seen some surprising collaborations in the food world. It’s nothing quite like the mustard Skittles we endured last year, but brands are always getting more creative. Last month, Cinnabon launched a popping candy-topped cinnamon roll and Oreo collaborated with Coca-Cola for a soda-inspired cookie. While some mashups, like Ranch Cheez-Its, fulfill the longtime hopes of fans, there are many collabs we never saw coming.
Now, two more brands are teaming up for a first-of-its-kind launch. Hormel and Cinnamon Toast Crunch have joined forces to create a new bacon flavor, and fans already have strong opinions.
Hormel Black Label Cinnamon Toast Crunch Bacon Is Coming to Shelves
Hormel’s Black Label bacon is now available coated in Cinnamon Toast Crunch's iconic Cinnadust seasoning blend. This new offering features thick-cut bacon with a Cinnadust rub that is rested overnight so that each bite is filled with sweet and salty flavor. According to the official Cinnadust website, the seasoning blend isn’t just cinnamon and sugar but also includes subtle caramel, vanilla, and graham flavors.
Instagram food reviewer @Snackolator shared a post confirming the long-rumored collab, which sparked a mix of excitement and skepticism among fans. “That’s cool, but you know what never needed an upgrade, probably? Bacon,” said one commenter.
While some voiced displeasure with the mashup announcement, others noted that it’s not unheard of to combine sweet and salty ingredients, comparing this new release to Dunkin’ Donuts Snackin’ Bacon. “You guys are letting the fact that it's a cereal throw you off. Cinnamon and sugar are used with bacon pretty often. This is the same thing just with extra marketing,” said one Instagrammer.
Despite the controversy, plenty of fans are looking forward to the Cinnadusted bacon and are already coming up with creative ways to use it. “This but you put them in between the pancake batter and make little breakfast dipping sticks,” replied one user. “Yup make an egg and bacon cinnamon roll breakfast sandwich," added another.
Hormel has recommendations for ways to cook up its new product, too, with recipes on its website like bacon-stuffed cinnamon rolls, bacon-wrapped puff pastry twists, and bacon, peanut butter, and banana sandwiches.
Hormel’s Black Label Bacon with Cinnamon Toast Crunch flavor is expected to hit select Walmart locations beginning Sept. 16. It will roll out to Kroger shelves in the coming weeks, so be sure to look for this limited-time release on your next grocery run.
