When Hollywood meets royalty! These stars met Princess Diana

Princess Diana tragically passed away in 1997, at the age of 36. However, she did get to meet plenty of celebrities over the course of her life, including actors, First Ladies and legends of the music industry! Some of them even became part of her inner circle! During her first trip to the United States in 1985, Princess Diana attended an event hosted by then-President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan. One of the highlights of the night was, undoubtedly, when the Princess of Wales and the ‘Grease’ actor hit the dancefloor!

As well as dancing with actor John Travolta, the princess also met the former First Lady of the United States, Nancy Reagan. During Diana’s trip to the US, she and Nancy visited a drug rehabilitation centre in Virginia together.

In 1986 Princess Diana shook hands with the ‘What's Love Got to Do with It’ hitmaker. It all took place during the Prince’s Trust Concert and both women were all smiles! Tina Turner had a special place in Lady Diana’s heart, especially her song ‘The Best’. In an episode of Apple Fitness’s ‘Time to Walk’, her son Prince William recalled: “My mother, she’d be driving along singing at the top of her voice.”

Princess Diana attended a Bryan Adams concert in Vancouver, Canada, as part of the singer’s North American tour in 1986. There, not only did she meet the ‘Heaven’ hitmaker, but was also able to greet some other stars including the broadcaster Barbara Walters.

In 1991 Princess Diana attended a charity concert, to raise money for children in need in war-torn Bosnia. Prior to the event, which took place in Modena, Italy, Lady Diana had the opportunity to greet the legendary opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.

Lady Diana met Mother Teresa of Calcutta back in 1992, in Rome, and from the very beginning the bond between them was very special. Following Diana’s death, Mother Teresa sent her condolences to the family, describing her as "a very good friend, in love with the poor, a very good wife, a very good mother.” The nun, who passed away just days after Diana's tragic death, added: "She was very concerned for the poor. She was very anxious to do something for them. That is why she was close to me."

In 1993, the actor and film director Clint Eastwood attended the premiere of Andrew David’s 1993 film ‘The Fugitive’. But he was not the only celeb at the event! Princess Diana was on the guestlist and the pair shared a conversation. However, they had already crossed paths at the 1985 event at the White House.

Princess Diana travelled to the United States again in 1996, this time meeting then-First Lady Hillary Clinton. During her visit, both women attended a Red Cross event in Washington D.C. while Hillary also attended Diana's funeral the following year.

One of Princess Diana’s closest friends was the British singer, Sir Elton John, whom she met in 1981 during Queen Elizabeth’s son Prince Andrew’s 21st birthday party. In his autobiography ‘Me’, the ‘Rocket Man’ singer recalled his first meeting with the princess. He wrote: “That night in 1981, she arrived in the ballroom and we immediately clicked. We ended up pretending to dance the Charleston while hooting at the disco’s feebleness.” Elton also performed a unique version of ‘Candle in the Wind’ at Princess Diana’s funeral.

Princess Diana and Freddie Mercury had a close relationship and reportedly enjoyed an amazing night out together. In her book 'The Power of Positive Drinking', the comedy actress Cleo Rocos recalled a night she spent with the famous duo. After deciding to go to the gay club Royal Vauxhall Tavern, the group agreed on dressing Diana up as a man, so she could enter unnoticed. Rocos wrote: “We were nudging each other like naughty schoolchildren. Diana and Freddie were giggling... Once the transaction was completed, we looked at one another, united in our triumphant quest. We did it!”
