Holly Willoughby was overcome with emotion as she was surprised backstage at This Morning on her 40th birthday by co-workers clapping and singing for the star.

Luckily co-host Phillip Schofield was there to capture it all on camera, sharing the videos on his Instagram stories, and informing followers: "The birthday girl is about to arrive, everything is ready, she doesn't know about this…"

Holly was seen entering the studio as Stevie Wonder's Happy Birthday was played and balloons lined the corridor. She then began tearing up as she entered her dressing room where there was a giant 4-0 decorated with lights, bouquets of flowers and a bottle of champagne.

Everyone was complying with Covid-19 restrictions and were wearing masks while keeping a safe distance from one another.

Holly managed to muster: "I'm going to spend all day in tears."

It's your birthday Holly, so you can most definitely cry all day if you want to!

Phil also shared a black and white photo of the pair together on Instagram, and added the caption: "Happy Birthday gorgeous."

The TV star was also surprised on Sunday night by the Dancing on Ice team who bought giant letters with lights that spelled out Holly, which they decorated with inflatable pink flamingos. Holly posed in front of her gift backstage, wearing a Frozen-inspired pale blue gown, which made her look just like Elsa.

"Thank you @dancingonice for making me feel so special... it’s kicked off my birthday week in style... honestly felt overwhelmingly spoilt today with all the decorations and cake!!!! Thank you.... love you to bits," Holly had captioned the picture.

Happy Birthday, Holly!
