London Fashion Week designer Holly Fulton is heading into the world of academia. She has been appointed Head of Fashion at the Cambridge School of Visual and Performing Arts, WWD has reported.

Fulton has been a firm fixture on the LFW calendar since she set up her eponymous label in 2009. In February, she took a break from the schedule, but returned in September with a presentation that featured not only ready to wear, but also interior design objects and furniture.

While this is the first major academic appointment for the designer, she has plenty of experience with students, with a role as a global ambassador for Graduate Fashion Week. She has also previously worked as a visiting lecturer for both the Royal College of Art and for Kingston University,

"Education is something I am passionate about and this position feels very natural for me," Fulton told WWD. "I have had some great mentors in my career and now I am in the right place to share what I've learned with students, while helping them to develop their own style and practice. I intend to give them an experience they would not be able to get at any other university."

Fulton has had plenty of success globally, which is one of the reasons she is perfect for this role, CSVPA's Karen Askham says: "Holly brings both a global understanding of the industry, with the success of her brand in Asia and the US, as well as an incredibly strong UK reputation through her significant position in Graduate Fashion Week."

Alongside her new role at the college, Fulton will continue to lead her namesake label.
