Hocus Pocus 2 released almost 30 years after the original, bringing back the Sanderson sisters and some other original cast members for a second round of spooky fun.

With renewed public interest in the series, and Hollywood's current interest in turning nostalgic classics into continuing franchises, there's plenty of talk about a third film.

Nothing has been confirmed yet, but three of the stars of the 1993 original who didn't return for Hocus Pocus 2 – Vinessa Shaw, Omri Katz and Jason Marsden – have all said they'd be up for it.

"It's such a fun story, and obviously having us reminisce about this makes it that much more fun and the fondness keeps growing," Shaw told Entertainment Weekly. Katz added that he'd be "100 percent down", while Marsden "absolutely" would return – although the former has a solid point to make.

"The witches are 30 years older, so we've got to get this done sooner than later. We can't wait another 30 years," Katz said. "Sorry, it's the truth! I'm sure Bette does not want to be doing this at age 98."

Hocus Pocus 2 director Anne Fletcher explained that she couldn't find a place for all of the original cast members in the sequel, and would rather not include them at all than give them tiny cameos for the sake of it.

Thora Birch was actually asked to come back for the sequel, but had to decline as she was filming for Netflix's Addams Family spin-off Wednesday, although she departed the project partway through shooting.

"Everybody tried so hard. Everybody tried so hard to make that happen and it just didn't," she said earlier this year.
