Days after Hillary Clinton passionately defended Meghan Markle against press intrusion, it's emerged that the former Secretary of State met with the Duchess of Sussex at home.

According to the Daily Mail, Clinton paid a visit to Meghan at Frogmore Cottage earlier this week.

Sources told the newspaper the two women hugged and spoke and Clinton also met Meghan and Prince Harry's baby boy, Archie, who she got to enjoy a cuddle with too.

'Both women have a lot of admiration for each other and it was a very sweet, warm meeting,' the source said. 'They are mutual fan girls.'

Clinton has been in the UK on her book tour for her latest works, Gutsy Women, which was written in collaboration with her daughter Chelsea.

The former presidential candidate reportedly bonded with Meghan over her new grandson Jasper, who is Chelsea's third child and was born in July.

Also on Tuesday, presumably before popping into Meghan's Windsor home, Clinton told BBC Radio 5 Live's Emma Barnet, the former Suits actress's race 'was clearly an element' in the backlash towards Meghan ever since her relationship with Prince Harry came to light in 2016.

'And to think that some of your - what we would call mainstream - media actually allowed that to be printed in their pages, or amplified, was heart-breaking and wrong,' Clinton said.

Meghan's admiration for Clinton also goes way back. Before dating Prince Harry, in 2015, Meghan spoke at a UN Women Event where she revealed that aged 11, she had written to then First Lady Hillary Clinton to protest against a gender-stereotyping washing-up liquid advert.

Clinton, along with TV journalist Linda Ellerbee and feminist lawyer Gloria Allred - who Meghan had also written letters too - apparently responded with 'letters of encouragement' to the budding, young feminist.
