Singaporean singer-songwriter JJ Lin held his first Singapore concert in two years over the weekend (27-28 November) at the Sands Theatre at Marina Bay Sands. The concert on Sunday was also live-streamed through his YouTube channel, Weibo, Douyin and TikTok. Proceeds from the shows will be donated to charity beneficiary Community Chest.

Apart from singing his hits like Those Were The Days, If Only, and She Says, the Mandopop star also performed At Least I Had You with his guest singer Gentle Bones. The duo released the English ballad earlier on 19 November.

During the concert, JJ Lin expressed his concerns about introducing Gentle Bones in Mandarin, as the budding Singaporean singer-songwriter doesn't have a Chinese stage name. To resolve the awkward situation, JJ Lin came up with some amusing name suggestions, such as Wen Rou Gu Tou, which is a literal translation of Gentle Bones, and even Ruan Gu, which means cartilage in Mandarin. Eventually, JJ Lin went with an affectionate nickname Xiao Gu, which means little bone in Mandarin.

Nearing the end of the concert, the star also gave a little preview of his two new songs: We Will and After The Rain. Both songs seem to spread positivity and encourage people to hold on, especially during this COVID-19 storm.

JJ Lin wrote on his Instagram after the concert:

“A few months ago, I was in a very dark place. I was infuriated, filled with confusion and frustration. As I played the piano and wrote the melody of this song, I am reminded of how weak I am and how easily broken one can be, even after so many years. We all go through thunderstorms, and I sincerely hope this song can be a testimony to our life journey. After The Rain, we will be stronger!”

We Will is now available on music streaming sites. After The Rain will be out on Tuesday midnight (30 November, SGT).
