If you’re anything like us, you’ve been counting down the years, months, days, hours, minutes and seconds for Euphoria season two to hit our screens – and finally, the momentous occasion came.

Now I need to preface this article by saying there are spoilers ahead. So consider yourself warned…

Now, we don’t know about you but episode one had our hearts BEATING – well, one scene in particular. Everybody has been talking about that bathroom scene. You know the one.

Desperate to pee, Maddy knocks on the bathroom door at a party, not knowing that her ex-boyfriend Nate and best friend Cassie are having sex on the other side of it. The intense moment leads to Cassie hiding in a bathtub to avoid being discovered by Maddy and the scene is truly like something out of a thriller movie. Heart pounding stuff, guys.

Now, alongside these crazy moments and hard-hitting themes – Zendaya even took to Instagram to give fans a heartfelt trigger warning before viewing the new season – the first episode is also filled with carefully-thought out hidden details, particularly in the makeup.

Euphoria makeup designer Doniella Davy has been sharing in-depth looks and explanations at some of the major beauty moments from the first episode of season two and it turns out, there were so many hidden meanings behind Cassie’s look.

Sharing pictures of Cassie, who is played by Sydney Sweeney, Doniella wrote: “OH CASSIE. Picking up where we left off at Winter Formal last season (when Cassie wanted to be celibate) with bare skin, taken up a notch with the sweetest tiny rhinies — scattered in a wide wing shape over an easy pinky-peach smoked-out wing shape.”

But as the episode goes on, these tiny rhinestones play a bigger part, symbolising Cassie's anxiety and fear. Even the placement of her lipstick speaks to her emotions on a deeper level.

“When we first see Cassie she’s already drunk and eating powdered donuts (the best) on the curb, so we loved keeping her skin dewy with super flushy cheeks and lips for this episode,” continues Doniella. “We were always bringing her lip colour out beyond her lips to sort of look like 'make-out/cry' lips or like she had been nervously biting her lip.

“As the night goes on, her anxiety-terrified-totally-freaked-out eyes are framed by this delicate, like innocent, twinkle. She wasn’t really trying to do what she did…right??"

Doniella adds: “I love how Cassie’s look contrasted so much with Maddy’s 🔪 liner. More on that coming right up!”

In a separate post, Doniella explains how Maddy’s sharp eyeliner is a metaphor for her life. In the caption, she wrote: “A Maddy wing is always THE sharpest wing. Sharp like a knife to cut through whatever stands in her way: Ex boyfriends, bathroom doors, etc 🔪💔”.

SO clever. We can’t wait to see what makeup moments come in episode two…
