Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West: North West

We have the press to thank for North West’s unusual moniker. When Kim was pregnant with her first child, media speculation about what Kimye would call the baby was off the scale with many suggesting the name North as a joke.
“It was a rumour in the press and we’d never really considered it seriously, at all,” Kim later explained to GQ. “But Kanye and I were having lunch about a year ago and Pharrell [Williams] came over to us and said, ‘Oh, my God, are you guys really going to call your daughter North? That is the best name.’ I said, ‘No we’re not, that’s just a rumour.”
Not long after Anna Wintour, the editor of US Vogue, told the couple she thought it was a genius name. “Kanye and I looked at one another and just laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck.”
North’s grandma Kris Jenner also revealed a further meaning behind the name telling The View: “The way [Kim] explained it to me was that North means highest power and she says that North is their highest point together.” [Photo: Getty]

The meaning behind every Kardashian-Jenner baby name

Keeping up with the Kardashians is proving pretty tricky at the moment, what with the arrival of all these babies.

Just yesterday Khloe Kardashian revealed the moniker she has chosen for her first baby, a little girl.

“Our little girl, True Thompson, has completely stolen our hearts and we are overwhelmed with LOVE. Such a blessing to welcome this angel into the family! Mommy and Daddy loooooove you True!,” Khloe captioned a photo on Instagram of a room filled with pink balloons and flowers.

Earlier this year Kim Kardashian welcomed her third child, another daughter, Chicago, with husband Kanye West via a surrogate.

Not long afterwards, Kylie Jenner finally confirmed what fans had suspected: not only had she been pregnant with Travis Scott’s baby, she’d also given birth on February 1 to a little girl named Stormi.

While Kris Jenner chose to kick-off her own naming tradition: giving each of her daughters a name that began with the letter ‘K,’ so far none of the Kardashian/Jenners have followed suit.

Instead Jenner’s grandchildren (all 9 of them) have been given some pretty unique monikers.

But what’s behind the choices and what do each of their chosen baby names mean?
