Here's How Long Your Brewed Tea Lasts In the Fridge
Here’s what you need to know if you’ve brewed a big batch of tea.
Brewed iced tea is a great make-ahead drink, especially on hot summer days when a cold glass of tea mixed with a fresh slice of lemon and ice is the perfect thirst quencher.
If tea is a summertime staple for you, you might be wondering, does tea expire—and how long does it last? Here's what you need to know.
How Long Can Brewed Tea Last?
At room temperature, brewed tea can last up to eight hours. If you store your brewed tea in the fridge, which we recommend, your tea will be best within 48 hours. Brewed tea is best stored in an airtight container, like a glass or ceramic pitcher with a fitted lid.
If you add ingredients like fruit or sugars to your tea, the shelf life will stay the same. Also, once tea is brewed, there is no reason to reheat it.
Is It Bad to Drink Expired Tea?
While there are no negatives to drinking brewed tea that has outlived its expiration date, the tea may lose its flavor and benefits after more than two days. Plus, it may no longer taste its best. So, if you’re someone that likes to brew lots of tea to enjoy throughout the day, make a batch you will finish in about two days or less.
