A HEREFORDSHIRE driver caught carrying a dangerous load has escaped a roads ban due to the hardship it would cause to employees, customers, and clubs he sponsors.

William David Hirons appeared before magistrates in Hereford for sentencing in March after entering a guilty plea to one count of using a vehicle or trailer that posed a danger due to the weight, position, distribution, or security of its load, on a road, at an earlier hearing.

The court heard from the prosecutor that the 37-year-old had been caught driving a Fiat Ducato on the A4103 in Herefordshire on May 13.

The vehicle was loaded high with waste, materials, and tools which were not correctly secured by strapping, were easily movable, and could have fallen from the vehicle, causing a danger of injury, the court heard.

Hirons, of Pencroft Road, Hereford, was fined £66 and received three penalty points for the offence.

He was also ordered to pay a £34 victim surcharge but no costs due to his circumstances.

Magistrates also ordered that no totting disqualification would be made as a roads ban would cause exceptional hardship to his employee, apprentice, and family. It would also cause a loss of contracts and clubs would lose their sponsorship, the court heard.
