1) Scafell Pike 'a bit rocky'

Charlie Goult visited England's highest mountain in September 2020 and had a rather strange suggestion for the surface of Scafell Pike.

He said: "Fantastic views, a good walk but a bit rocky, quite a lot of steps... how about the National Trust lay a nice bit of turf down to help in the feet."

2) Skiddaw 'too high' and 'totally under-developed'

Izzy L visited Skiddaw in 2015, however wasn't very impressed that there were no facilities at the summit.

She said: "Compared to Snowdon summit this is a weak and poorly developed visitor attraction. Snowdon has a funicular railway to carry people to the summit. At Snowdon summit there is an excellent visitor centre with the full range of facilities - and the whole operation attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors per year.

"Ascending to the summit of Skiddaw is an exhausting experience on the basis that the only means to get up there is to walk. It is just too high and too steep for most people. How can the Lake District National Park people expect people to go up there?. Be warned that ... THERE ARE NO FACILITIES AT THE SUMMIT. If you actually make it to the summit and then need the toilet then that is just too bad!.

"I visited the summit this last weekend and was very disappointed with the experience. There was sod all to see and do there. If people had to pay to go there then nobody, and I mean nobody, would bother with it. The National Park people should charge visitors £5 to go the summit and use the proceeds to develop it. Essentials include a proper visitor centre. Long to medium term, consideration should be given to building a funicular railway to Skiddaw summit."

3) Aira Force not as big as when this reviewer 'fills their bath'

767kevino visited the waterfall back in May 2016, saying that he was 'totally underwhelmed'.

He said: "Read the reviews about this place and everybody was saying how amazing it was. After seeing this "amazing" waterfall I was totally underwhelmed.

"What a waste of a walk! We then walked further up the path to see High Force and actually walked past it. There's a bigger waterfall when I fill my bath.

"There are two paths one with views apparently and one without. Fact of the matter is neither have views because you are in a forest! If however you leave the forest at the top of the waterfall and head back towards the car park then there is a lovely view over the lake.

"There are also two tree stumps (one on either path) that have numerous coins in them. Hard to explain but as to be seen. So to sum up - waste of time if you want to see a really waterfall!"

4) Scafell Pike 'overrated'

In February 2015 stephenrobinsona visited the popular mountain, but thought it was 'as over-rated as the lake in front of it.'

He said: "Access to Scafell Pike was through lovely country side on heavily pot holed single track roads. When we arrived it was nothing special.

"We got two punctures from the potholes and had to wait for four hours to be picked up by the RAC. We had just left the single track road so it was easier to be rescued.

"We were picked up in a large truck driven by a very nice bloke who took us the 97 miles home.

5) Helvellyn home to an 'aggressive ram'

In July 2021 visitor Ellen said that her and her friends had nearly been attacked by the ram after trying to reach the trig-point.

She said: "Be aware of the very aggressive Ram at the summit.

"He tried to attack us multiple times.

"I believe he is highly territorial over the trig-point and would not less us near it until we communicated calm messages."
