Helen Mirren proved her fashion and beauty credentials at the BAFTAs when she stepped out with a daring pink rinse.

And now top hairdresser Charles Worthington has backed the Brit actress, telling us he thought Helen’s rinse at the BAFTA Awards 2013 was a fun fashion statement.

“I heard that she did [the pink rinse] for Breast Cancer Awareness Think Pink, so if it is I think it’s brilliant,” said the EE BAFTA hair stylist.

Charles attended the BAFTA ceremony and after party and revealed to us that 67-year-old Helen wasn’t taking her new hairdo too seriously.

“I have to say Helen was smiling and laughing all night, she was not taking herself seriously,” he told us.

“She’d done something a bit cheeky [and] she knew she was going to grab the attention of the press.”

Charles defended the Brit actress, who he said had come under criticism for her pink rinse.

“I know people have said ‘oh no it was ridiculous’ but I like people being brave with their hair and she made a fun statement,” he said.

And he argued that the shade of Helen Mirren’s rinse was soft and flattering – but that it’s likely to wash out in a couple of days.

“At the end of the day, it wasn’t an ugly colour, it was a soft colour,” he said.

“Within two days that’ll wash out and she’ll be at her natural colour again, so she’s used her hair as a little bit of a fashion statement.

“I thought it was fun.”

The Queen actress Helen Mirren isn’t the first star to have stepped out in a daring pink rinse.

Katy Perry rocked a pink rinse at the Change Begins Within' Benefit Celebration in LA.

The Wide Awake singer straightened her pink locks into a sleek bob which framed her face and wore complimentary pink eye make-up and blush.

While Radio 1 DJ Fearne Cotton teamed her pink rinse with a slick of rosy pink lipstick and feline eyeliner.

However, Charles Worthington warned us that a pink rinse won’t suit everybody and that only people with cool skintones should opt for one.

“If you have a cool skintone, a pink is going to work [but]if you have a warm skintone, then it’s not going to look good,” he advised.

“If you have a warm skintone, reds tend to look good,” he suggested.

Charles explained to that a pink rinse has a blue tone to it which suits cooler skintones, whereas red hair has an orangey tone to it that suits warmer skintones better.

If you fancy jumping on the pink rinse trend but have a warmer skintone, perhaps opt for pink ends like these lovely ladies.

Former The Hills star Lauren Conrad tied her hair into a sleek pony and dyed her curled ends a bright pink shade.

And Canadian model Coca Rocha opted for a similar shade but instead left her locks down and to one side.
