The BAFTA Awards may have been pretty soggy this evening but that didn't dampen our spirits - oh no! While shivering on the red carpet, Grazia Daily got rather flustered at the sight of Bradley SWOON Cooper and cooed when Jessica Chastain arrived in a Roland Mouret gown. Three cheers for Marion Cotillard and Andrea Riseborough who brought lashes of colour in their bright yellow frocks but tonight's top marks are awarded to Helen Mirren who caused a universal gasp. Why? Because the grand Dame of the silver screen has only gone and hit the bottle! The bottle of hair dye, that is. Yes, Ms Mirren has transformed her hair with a layered crop and wonderful pink hue.
Helen swooshed onto the red carpet wearing a dove grey gown - but it was the bright shock of colour a-top her head that caught our eye. Having ditched the blonde bob we all know and love, the actress decided to update her 'do in time for the swanky soiree. She wisely kept the colour of her dress pared-down in order to avoid any nasty colour clashing, but matched the new dye job with a slick of bubblegum pink lipstick. Nicely done, Mirren! The candyfloss colour gives the award-winning star a fresh, youthful twist to her beauty look and the pale shade works perfectly with her English rose complexion.
So who has Helen taken inspiration from? Of course, Katy Perry has dabbled in many a hair colour and before her split from Russell Brand, she was temporarily in the pink. January Jones and Lauren Conrad have dared to have a dip-dye with streaks of pastel tones in their blonde locks while Nicki Minaj and Lily Allen went the whole hog with all-over fluro. But our favourite tickled pink star has to be teeny catwalker Charlotte Free who frequently tempts us to reach for the bottle with her vibrant mop.
Whoever her hairspiration, it's fair to say Dame Mirren is in very good company. For proof, admire the pink-haired beauties in the gallery below. And if you want to give the look a go, we recommend taking baby steps with a few loose streaks of colour poking out through a tousled blowout. Temporary extensions in the lower part of your hair are ideal and provide a much more subtle and wearable way to work the trend.
