You have to hear the Queen's hilarious response to tourists who didn't recognise her

You'd be forgiven for thinking the Queen was fairly recognisable the world over, but it seems that wasn't the case for a group of tourists who failed to recognise the monarch - and her response was pretty hilarious.

During a holiday to her summer home in Balmoral, where she's currently taking her annual break, the Queen apparently ran into a a group of American tourists who didn't recognise her, and she poked fun at them in response.

The sweet story has been shared by the Queen's former protection officer, Richard Griffin, who told The Times he was out walking with the Queen on the Scottish estate when they met the tourists.

According to his anecdote, the American group asked the Queen whether she lived in the area, with her responding saying that she had a house nearby (erm, her house, aka Balmoral Castle).

The tourists then bafflingly asked if she'd ever met the Queen, with the monarch gesturing to her protection officer Richard and saying, "No, but this policeman has."

You'd think that the Queen's comment might have given her identity away, but it turns out the group then simply moved on with no idea of who they'd just met.

Fancy being lucky enough to casually bump into the Queen and not know who she is, eh? Still, it's sweet to see the Queen's witty sense of humour come into play in what could have been a fairly awkward situation.

Of course, given the fact that the tourists specifically asked the monarch about herself, there's every chance they could have been playing a sarcastic joke, in fact knowing exactly who they were speaking to.

We'll be keeping our eyes peeled next time we're out for a walk, then.
