Harry Styles gave a fan the best dating advice while on stage in the US, and his speech is actually very relatable.

Performing on tour in Minnesota, Harry stopped his concert to respond to a fan's sign in the crowd which read, "Should I text him?" - prompting the singer to offer his own wisdom, including a quote from The Notebook.

While some of the audience apparently booed in response to the question, Harry, who is currently dating Olivia Wilde, decided to answer before launching into a speech giving some (admittedly very great) advice.

He asked the fan, "Is he nice to you?" adding, "In my opinion, if you should [text him], this isn't even a question," with fans capturing the whole thing on camera.

Harry continued, "If you're wondering, if we're playing games, if we're wondering, 'Should I text him? Should I not text him? I can't text him too soon. Now we're thinking about double texting, and that's a whole different risky business. Now he's thumbs'ed it, so technically he's the last one to do something. But now it still seems like a double text.' It's a whole thing."

Listen, Harry, we've all been there.

The singer finished with a final piece of advice, inspired by none other than The Notebook, which the 1D star has previously said is his favourite film. "My personal opinion is that if there's any sort of games, trash, trash, trash, not for you," he added while switching into his best American accent.

Where's Harry in our group chat when we need him?

Have a watch of Harry's whole speech (and take notes) here:

Fans of The Notebook will recognise Harry's final line from the film, with Allie's mum Joan telling her daughter that Noah is "a nice boy," but that he's "Trash, trash, trash…not for you!"
