Harry Styles' transition from One Directioner to bona fide frontman is complete. And it seems the metamorphosis (by way of Gucci) has taught the 24-year-old one hugely important lesson: the merits of a beautiful suit.

In his very first gig with the Italian juggernaut, Styles can be seen sauntering in and around a local chippy in North London. So far, so British. Except his wardrobe is far from the usual bag-of-scraps-and-a-fish-fritter attire.

Using 70s-inspired peak lapels and light embroidery, this is classic tailoring given an instant uplift thanks to the signature twist of creative director Alessandro Michele.

Feeling inspired? The trick here is to remain restrained. While a brocade, floral jacket is a big move for most, you can replicate the Gucci vibes by enlisting a small detail here and there: a remixed Prince of Wales check, a striped shirt below, a pop of outerwear colour and so on and so forth.

Pay attention to accessories, too. No, not the handheld chicken or the dog (which are both excellent castmates, by the way). But the brooch, the overlayered checks and the smattering of finger bling. All three at once may be bold, but there's nothing to stop you dipping your toe (or your hand or shoulders, for that matter).

Alternatively, you can wait for the collection Harry is wearing: Gucci will release it in Autumn / Winter 2019.
