Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their pregnancy news to the world on Sunday (14 February) with a stunning black and white couple's photo. And it seems that their choice of Valentine's Day for the big reveal may have had a special meaning behind it...

Indeed, royal commentators have suggested that the choice of 14 February was made in tribute to Harry's late mother, Princess Diana.

It turns out that the news of Princess Diana's own second pregnancy with Prince Harry was made on the exact same day, 37 years earlier. That's right, the world discovered that Dianna was carrying Harry on 14 February, 1984.

The lovely coincidence was pointed out on Twitter by royal correspondent Omid Scobie, who co-wrote Harry and Meghan's biography, Finding Freedom, in 2020.

Scobie shared a vintage snap of the front page of the Daily Express from 14 February 1984, which reads, "Valentine's joy for Charles and Diana", alongside a photo of the princess.

He wrote in the accompanying caption: "A touching tribute for the Sussexes to announce their exciting news on #ValentinesDay.

"It was exactly 37 years ago that Princess Diana shared with the world that she was pregnant with Prince Harry."

Harry and Meghan's happy news was also confirmed in a statement, with a spokesperson saying: "We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.

"The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are overjoyed to be expecting their second child.”

It has not yet been revealed when Meghan is due to give birth, but we're now left wondering whether Archie's new sibling will share their birthday with dad Prince Harry!

Many congratulations to the Sussexes!
