Prince Harry and Meghan Markle surprised a group of young poets during one of their online classes, with the duchess sharing some of her favourite lines of poetry.

The Get Lit - Words Ignite organisation shared a screenshot of the royals joining their class on Monday 8 February, saying the appearance made it the “best weekend EVER”.

Get Lit is a California-based arts education non-profit organisation, which aims to improve teen literacy through poetry and spoken word.

The photo showed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in their Santa Barbara home, with the duchess in a blue shirt and the duke in a white polo shirt.

The post read: “It was the best weekend EVER! Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were magic and kind and interested in poetry! The Duchess even shared some of her favorite poetry lines.

“We are so grateful for their visit in honor of Black History Month. It goes down as most epic experience in Get Lit history!!!”

Meghan, 39, and Harry, 36, were joining the call as part of Black History Month, which is marked in February in the US.

According to PA, the couple wanted to support an organisation which encourages young people to find and use their voices.

Mason Granger, Get Lit’s manager of public outreach, added on his own Instagram post: “Soooo Prince Harry and Meghan dropped into my poetry class on Saturday and kicked it with the Get Lit Players for a multitude of minutes.

“My favourite part of it all was Meghan echoing so many sentiments we’ve talked about in class, about this particular moment in time/history to be a young person and the ripple effect of a single voice.

“The root of them deciding to come is because at some point in their lives, they were moved by a poem.”

It’s not known which poem the duchess quoted during the evening.

He said the Get Lit Players “10/10 would recommend the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for your next Zoom poetry practice”.

Meghan has previously quoted Maya Angelou, using her words in a speech in South Africa when she said: “Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it, possibly without claiming it, she stands up for all women.”

She also featured writer Matt Haig’s poem ‘A Note From The Beach’ in the September 2019 issue of British Vogue which she guest-edited.
