Calling all fans of The Stranger, Safe, and The Woods: there's a new Harlan Coben Netflix adaptation on the way. As part of his five-year deal with the streaming giant, they will now be adapting the author's bestselling 2012 mystery novel Stay Close. The new eight-part thriller, which will made by the same team behind The Stranger, boasts a seriously good cast, and production took place on location in Manchester and the North West of England.

For those who haven't yet read the book, it tells the tale of three key characters whose “dark secrets resurface, setting off a chain of events which threatens to destroy their lives,” according to Netflix. Here's everything else we know:

Do we have any teaser pics for Netflix's Stay Close?

Who will star in Netflix's Stay Close?

So many great actors. Vera star Cush Jumbo, Cold Feet's James Nesbitt, Berlin Station's Richard Armitage and Bancroft star Sarah Parish have all signed on for the series. If, like us, you marathon-watched The Stranger last year, you'll also remember Richard from his role as Adam Price.

In early February 2021, Netflix also announced another raft of exciting cast members, including Eddie Izzard, comedian Andi Osho, Small Axe's Daniel Francis, Ackley Bridge star Jo Joyner, Get Even's Bethany Antonia and Butcher Boy actor Rachel Andrews.

Eddie Izzard will be playing Harry - a small-town lawyer and defender of the disenfranchised residents of Livingstone. Jo Joyner is Erin Cartwright, a quick witted, highly observant Police Detective and Broome’s ex-wife. Daniel Francis will play Dave Shaw, a doting father to his three children and engaged to Megan, while Andi Osho is cast as Simona, a retired ex-army sergeant who’s now pregnant with her first child.

Bethany Antonia plays Megan and Dave’s eldest daughter Kayleigh Shaw and Rachel Andrews is Bea, Kayleigh’s best friend. Meanwhile, also joining the cast is seemingly sweet young couple Call The Midwife's Poppy Gilbert as Barbie and Hyoie O’Grady as Ken.

What have Netflix said about Stay Close?

The official synopsis reads, "With trademark thrills, gripping suspense, and a crime to solve, Stay Close questions how much you really know someone. Three people living comfortable lives each conceal dark secrets that even the closest to them would never suspect; Megan (Jumbo), a working mother of three; Ray (Armitage), the once promising documentary photographer, now stuck in a dead-end job pandering to celebrity-obsessed rich kids, and Broome (Nesbitt), a detective who’s unable to let go of a missing person’s cold case. As the past comes back to haunt them, threatening to ruin their lives and the lives of those around them, what will be their next move?"

What has Harlan Coben said about Stay Close?

The latest adaptation is part of Coben's five-year deal with the streaming giant to turn 14 of his books into TV shows and films. Yep, 14! They've already adapted The Stranger, Safe, and The Woods and 2016's The Five.

Speaking about the new series, he shared, "I am so happy and excited to Stay Close (pun intended) with Danny Brocklehurst, Nicola Shindler and Richard Fee - the same team that made The Stranger, Safe and The Five. And talk about a dream-come-true cast – Cush Jumbo, an incendiary and awesome talent; Jimmy Nesbitt, a legendary actor I always wanted to collaborate with; and wow, Richard Armitage back again!"

When will Stay Close be released on Netflix?

Stay Close launches on Netflix on 31 December, 2021. We know what we'll be doing with our hungover New Year's Day! The series will be eight 45 minute parts.
