Happiest areas of the UK ranked: Did yours make the cut?

Winchester in South East England is the happiest place in the United Kingdom.

This is according to a new happiness index released by the Royal Mail, which measures happiness in areas around the UK.

The areas are ranked based on eight different factors, including average earnings, life expectancy, access to health services and levels of deprivation.

Carbon emission levels, residents’ reported sense of well-being, the earnings of the local authority and crime are also taken into account.

While the Royal Mail ranked England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales separately as well as a general United Kingdom ranking, it was found the top 10 locations were all based in England – meaning these two tables look the same.

The slideshow above, therefore, shows the happiest districts in the United Kingdom as a whole.

The South East of England scored particularly well, with five out of ten local authorities from this region scoring in the top ten list.
