To recap, last year the model was rushed to hospital after experiencing "stroke-like symptoms" that were later discovered to have been caused by a blood clot on her brain. Recalling what happened to her, the model said she was having breakfast with husband Justin Bieber when a "really weird sensation" moved from her shoulder, down her arm and into her fingertips. Justin asked her if she was okay, but the sensation left her unable to speak and the right side of her face started to droop – one of the main signs of a stroke.
The medical emergency has since left Hailey with a number of mental health issues. "I struggled with a lot of anxiety after," she said on Thursday's The Run-Through with Vogue podcast. "I struggled with a little bit of PTSD of just, like, the fear of maybe it was gonna happen again."
The 26-year-old went on: "It was just a feeling that I was, like, I never want to experience that ever again. It was so terrifying, so jarring, so discombobulating in every single way that you could imagine."
Although it's been almost a year since the mini-stroke, Hailey said she's only "just now starting to come out of that kind of fight-or-flight feeling of being nervous about something bad happening again."
"I look back at it and it could’ve been so much worse [though]," she admitted.
Despite the ordeal being the "scariest thing" she's ever been through, Hailey stressed that there's been one positive to come out of it. "I think the bright side for me is that it led me to find out I had this hole in my heart," she said, explaining she later underwent surgery to mend the hole. "I’m just really grateful that I was able to have had amazing doctors and nurses, and people that helped me get to the bottom of what actually happened."
