Hailey Bieber is convinced she's cursed by the Met Gala, and it's not hard to understand why.

During a recent interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show the model, who has attended the Costume Institute Gala six times in total, reflected on the misfortunes she suffered after her first two appearances at the event, which is held annually at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

Speaking to guest host Yvonne Orji, the 24-year-old – who last attended the event with husband Justin Bieber while celebrating their third wedding anniversary in September – said: 'The first time I ever went to the Met, the morning after, I twisted my ankle and broke my foot. It was a whole thing!'

The Rhode founder made her debut appearance at the annual fundraiser in 2015, which was themed ‘China: Through the Looking Glass’, aged 18.

The Jimmy Choo campaign star also noted how she had another spell of bad luck at the Met Gala, titled ‘Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology’, a year later.

'The year after, 365 days to the day, because it was midnight of the Met Gala, I broke the same foot. But, the bone next to the one I broke the year before,' she added.

Bieber went on to say: 'So I had this whole thing in my head where I was like, the night of the Met Gala or the 24 hours within the Met Gala are cursed for me.

'It happened the two times and it hasn't happened since, knock on wood.’

Despite Bieber's mishaps it seems they haven’t stopped her showing up for the event every year since, with the exception of last year's which was cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Not only did she and her husband attend this year’s event, held on September 13, but the occasion marked the first time the pair had attended the event as a couple.

To mark the celebrations, the duo wore coordinating outfits – the model donned a back plunging floor-length gown by Saint Laurent while Justin echoed his wife’s all-black look in a suit from his own label, Drew House.

On the subject of relationships, Bieber revealed what she classes as ‘red flags’.

She highlighted that someone who hadn’t been to therapy was one turn off, while making sure to point out: 'Some people can't afford it and some people don't have access to it so I think that's really unfortunate.'

'I would say that if you are in a really serious relationship with someone or you're engaged or you think you're heading towards being married, I think getting into therapy is something that's really important.'

The former ballet dancer previously opened up about how therapy helped her to deal with ‘negative attention’.

In her interview earlier this year for Women's Health UK's Going for Goal podcast, she said: 'The way that I've dealt with a lot of the negative attention is [by talking it] through with a therapist, and I do therapy consistently.

‘I'm also married to someone that's been dealing with this a lot longer than I have, to the highest level it could possibly be,' she said when speaking about her partner.
