Hailey Bieber's hospital dash – how to spot stroke symptoms

Watch: Hailey Bieber said stroke-like symptoms sent her to hospital

Model Hailey Bieber has revealed she was hospitalised with “stroke-like symptoms” due to a “small blood clot” in her brain.

The model, 25, was rushed to a hospital near Palm Springs on Thursday after she was taken ill at breakfast.

Justin Bieber’s wife, who has since returned home and has been “doing well”, admitted it was “one of the scariest moments” she had ever experienced.

Bieber, 25, wrote on Instagram: “On Thursday morning, I was sitting at breakfast with my husband when I started having stroke like symptoms and was taken to the hospital.

"They found I had suffered a very small blood clot to my brain, which caused a small lack of oxygen, but my body had passed it on its own and I recovered completely within a few hours.

"Although this was definitely one of the scariest moments I’ve ever been through, I’m home now and doing well, and I’m so grateful and thankful to all the amazing doctors and nurses who took care of me!"

While Bieber's actual diagnosis is unclear, she says she experienced stroke-like symptoms after suffering a small blood clot to the brain which her body passed on its own.

According to the Stroke Association, a transient ischaemic attack (TIA or mini-stroke) is the same as a stroke, but the symptoms only last a short time. You get stroke symptoms because a clot is blocking the blood supply in your brain. When the clot moves away, the stroke symptoms stop.

Many assume strokes only happen to older people, but the Stroke Association says they can happen to anyone at any age.

While most people who have a stroke are older, younger people can have strokes too, including children. In fact, one in four strokes in the UK happens to people of working age.

Experts advise it's important to spot the signs in yourself or someone else as quickly as possible to try to limit the impact of a stroke. They advise using the FAST method to spot the most common symptoms and get the right medical help.

Facial weakness: Can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?

Arm weakness: Can the person raise both arms?

Speech problems: Can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?

Time to call 999: if you see any of these signs.

Thankfully Bieber is now doing just fine and has thanked "everyone who has reached out with well wishes and concern", writing on Instagram how she appreciated "all the support and love".
