Hailee Steinfeld's brilliant advice for her younger self

Hailee Steinfeld is having a moment. From her show-stopping Met Gala look to joining the Marvel universe and finishing up the final season of Dickinson on AppleTV+ - it's safe to say she is booked and busy.

Dickinson season 3 ties up her character, poet Emily Dickinson's, story, while viewers are desperately hoping for a conclusion to her are-they-aren't-they relationship with Sue. "I think to play a character that can make someone feel that they are reflected in some way is such an honour for me, Hailee told Cosmopolitan UK of the role.

"I feel that the show in many ways, whether it be with Emily and Sue, or any of the other characters in this show, I feel like there is representation and I hope that people feel the same way. It was really important to be to do this character dynamic justice, because as you say, [LGBT relationships on TV] isn’t that common.

"But it is becoming more and more and that makes me very happy to know that maybe somewhere there is a person that doesn’t have a supportive family or access to resources. But they have this show they can stream and see themselves reflected in, and maybe it helps them better identify who they are."

Hailee then revealed her brilliant advice for budding actors, poets, or anyone younger who may be inspired by the series. "Do not let anybody tell you that what you’re doing for you, [the things that] make you feel good and make you feel the most alive; don’t let them tell you [that] that’s not right for you."

The 24-year-old added, "Only you can decide what is meant for you. Live your life unapologetically and be yourself regardless of who or what that looks like. Just be you and be true to yourself. And stop at nothing for your happiness."

Amen.

Dickinson season three is streaming on AppleTV+ from 5 November.
