Gwyneth Paltrow says having children "ruins" relationships

Gwyneth Paltrow has shared an honest thought on the impact of having children, telling Katy Perry she thinks kids "ruin" relationships.

"It’s hard on a relationship," the actor slash Goop founder said on her podcast. "Like I’ve looked back now on like the data set of parents with young kids. It just ruins the relationship."

"It’s really hard!" Gwyneth, who shares two children – 18-year-old Apple and 16-year-old Moses – with her ex-husband Chris Martin, added.

In response, Katy – who has a two-year-old daughter with Orlando Bloom – agreed, but pointed out that having children requires both people in a relationship to pull their weight. "I think if both people in the relationship are willing to do the work then it’s going to be so much easier," she went on. "But if one person thinks they don’t have any work to do then it’s going be really challenging."

Speaking about how her own life changed after welcoming her kids, Gwyneth told Katy: "I never felt lonely again after I had her [Apple]… and I had felt profoundly lonely in my life."

Previously, Gwyneth opened up about the "crazy" labour experience she had with her daughter. "My daughter was an emergency [caesarean]," she said on the Armchair Expert podcast in 2021. "It was crazy. We almost died. It was not good." Although she didn't give away too many details about what lead to the emergency caesarean, the actor branded the birth "traumatic."
