Gwyneth Paltrow admits she 'misses' cigarettes as she insists fame isn't 'healthy' for anyone
Gwyneth Paltrow has admitted that she "misses" cigarettes, as she opened up about her "crazy" younger years and the "intense" level of attention she received early on in her career.
The Hollywood actress, 49, told Holly Willoughby, on the latest episode of the presenter's By The Light Of The Moon podcast, that fame is not "healthy" for anyone.
She said: "When I was a teenager I was pretty spicy. I was full of this unbridled energy, I was a risk taker.
The founder of wellness empire Goop continued: "I was definitely not the way I am now. I definitely had a crazy punk rock streak that I managed to temper over the years."
When asked by Willoughby is she missed any aspect of that time, Paltrow replied: "I miss the cigarettes."
However, of her current healthier way of life, she added: "I actually really prefer this incarnation of myself more."
The star – who shares 17-year-old daughter Apple and 16-year-old son Moses with ex-husband, the singer Chris Martin – also opened up about being "thrust" under the spotlight aged 22.
She explained: "It was pretty crazy. I marvel a little bit at how I kind of got through being in the public eye to that degree for so long. Because it can be surprising how the energetic force of negativity that can come at you can be pretty significant.
"And I also don't think it's healthy for any human being to have that kind of attention on them. I actually don't think fame is very good for anybody whatsoever.
"But I was really thrust into it – I had been doing a few small parts in a couple of good films. Then all of a sudden I was in Seven and Brad Pitt and I fell in love. Then I started getting chased everywhere that I went and that persisted for a couple of decades."
Four years later, aged 26, she won an Oscar for Shakespeare In Love and shared that she "collapsed" shortly afterwards at the house of her parents, actors Bruce Paltrow and Blythe Danner.
Paltrow, who dated Pitt from 1994 to 1997, explained: "My nervous system was having a hard time recuperating from all that scrutiny and social interaction surrounding the awards.
"I didn't have my bearings. It felt so intense to be put on this fake pedestal. I just sort of collapsed and went to my parents house and stayed in my old room for three weeks."
