Gwen Stefani never used a stylist in the early days of her music career.

The singer was well known for her irreverent – and now iconic – outfits when she served as the frontwoman for rock band No Doubt and wore her signature low-slung trousers with sneakers and crop tops.

She hit the headlines when she wed fellow rocker Gavin Rossdale in 2002 while wearing a pink dipped ivory dress by John Galliano, and in a recent interview, Gwen revealed that she styled herself for years.

“I was always a misfit. I didn’t have a stylist telling me what to wear. They were my clothes,” she told Australian magazine Stellar. "Those clothes became peoples’ Halloween costumes! The more that you’re yourself, the more unique and original you are."

The 51-year-old said she felt her most authentic self while creating her own outfits and she didn't regret her style choices.

"I look back on all the things I’ve done and think, 'Gosh, how did I stumble upon that?' (But) I didn’t – I was just being me. The one thing I always knew was that I would always follow my truth and what I liked and who I was," Gwen explained.

She explored her famous outfits in her video for her single Let Me Reintroduce Myself last year, in which she rewore the iconic polka dot dress in No Doubt's video for Don't Speak, and her black beanie hat from her debut solo single Hollaback Girl.
