Cast your mind back to Lockdown Part I. That seems like forever ago now, right?

Well, back in March, all fast food restaurants were forced to fully shut down (luckily, most places have been able to reopen in some capacity this time around).

This meant we were forced to recreate our fast food favourites at home. One of the best ones we had a go at was this guy鈥檚 homemade KFC recipe, which he said he鈥檇 been perfecting for 18 months before finally releasing it into the world. And this slow cooker KFC is incredible too.

The good news is, we have another homemade KFC recipe for you to try, and we think you are going to go bananas for it.

How do you fancy having a turn at making KFC Popcorn Chicken at home? Yeah, I thought you鈥檇 be into that. This recipe is from 19-year-old Morgan Hipworth, who owns Bistro Morgan Bakehouse in Melbourne.

He shared a video on his Instagram showing how he makes the iconic KFC chicken bites at home, so here鈥檚 everything you need to try it yourself.

Homemade KFC Popcorn Chicken ingredients:

  • 1 chicken breast, diced into 1cm cubes

For the marinade:

  • 100ml buttermilk

  • Pinch of sea salt

For the dry mix:

  • 100g corn flour

  • 1 tbsp each of paprika, garlic powder and onion powder

  • 1 tbsp each of pepper, oregano, basil and mustard powder

  • 300ml vegetable oil, to fry

  • Chicken salt, to season

How to make homemade KFC Popcorn Chicken

  • Combine the diced chicken, buttermilk and salt in a bowl and allow to marinade at room temperature for 30 minutes. Whilst the chicken is marinading in another bowl combine all the dry mix ingredients.

  • Heat a deep frying pan over medium with the vegetable oil.

  • Drain the chicken from the buttermilk and dust generously into the dry mix and then into the hot oil. Fry for around two to three minutes or until golden and crispy.

  • Drain on paper bowl and toss with chicken salt and serve.

Morgan also recently has shared a TikTok showing you how to make a version of McDonald鈥檚 fries in your very own kitchen.
