Socialite Nicole Richie has a pretty famous pair of adoptive parents, singer Lionel Richie and Brenda Richie. Nicole’s birth parents, Karen Moss and Peter Michael Escovedo, were having financial issues and Lionel, a family friend, offered to take Nicole under his wing when she was four years old, officially adopting her just five years later. - 3/11

'Nomadland' actress Frances McDormand was adopted at just one years old by Noreen and Vernon McDonald. Frances was one of three kids adopted by the pair, and they fostered many more. Frances has continued the legacy, adopting a child of her own, Pedro, with husband Joel Coen. Frances has referred to her birth mother as “white trash". - 4/11

DJ Sonny John Moore, also known as Skrillex, didn’t know he was adopted until he was a teenager. Comedian Keegan-Michael Key spoke about his adoption journey on the 'You Made it Weird' podcast hosted by Pete Holmes that he considered himself to have “a lot of parents". 'Goodfellas' actor Ray Liotta shared with The Guardian newspaper that he “was really grateful that I was adopted". As an adult, Ray found his birth mother and after speaking with her, could understand her reasons for putting him up for adoption. 'The Shining' actor Jack Nicholson didn’t learn about his adoption until he was 37 years old, many years after the passing of his adoptive mother and grandmother. Jack’s birth mother was only 17 when she gave birth to him and asked her parents to legally adopt and raise him. Speaking on the situation, Jack stated, “I'd say it was a pretty dramatic event, but it wasn't what I'd call traumatizing ... it made quite a few things clearer to me.
