Haas boss Guenther Steiner does not believe the Red Bull dominance has made F1 2023 boring, nor is it certain to last.

Red Bull have picked up from where they left off after a dominant second-half of the 2022 campaign, claiming 10 wins from the final 11 grands prix of that season.

Their buffer over the chasing pack has seemingly only grown though in F1 2023, with four of the first five grands prix yielding one-two finishes for Red Bull, who already look well on their way to retaining the Constructors’ title, with a straight fight between Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez for the Drivers’ crown.

That though is what Steiner it seems would call jumping to conclusions.

Current P2 team Aston Martin may be some way from challenging Red Bull in race trim, the same true for Mercedes, Ferrari and Alpine too in that chasing pack, but Steiner fully believes that a team will emerge to bring the fight to Red Bull.

His call to the fans then is for them to be patient.

Put to him that some fans may be finding F1 2023 boring so far, Steiner replied, as per RacingNews365.com: “I find the opposite.

“It’s not boring for me. I think there [has been] enough action.

“Obviously, Baku was not the most exciting race we had this year. But there [were] a lot of races [that] were exciting.

“You maybe see that the Red Bulls are strong, but there’s a lot of other things going on as well. We [should not] forget about that.

“I am believer that, at some stage, somebody will catch up with Red Bull and there will be a fight.

“We always jump to conclusions after a few races: ‘Oh, it’s all over now’.

“No – I would be a little bit more patient.”

Another early belief emerging is that considering Red Bull’s stranglehold on the F1 silverware right now, there is every chance that they could claim all 23 grand prix victories on offer in F1 2023.

Challenging Red Bull for the win versus actually taking one from them is indeed a very different proposition, but Steiner is also of the belief that we will have a non-Red Bull race winner this season.

“I think another team will probably win this year,” Steiner predicted.

The Formula 1 budget cap is designed to create more of a level playing field in the series, but what it also means is that every team bringing upgrades must be as sure as possible that it is going to be worth eating into their allowance for.

Mercedes have taken the plunge with a major upgrade package for their W14, set to arrive at the next race at Imola, while Red Bull principal Christian Horner has also heard that Ferrari are preparing to unleash a “significant” update for their SF-23.

Red Bull of course have the ideal starting point for development of their RB19, but if teams like Mercedes, Ferrari and Aston Martin are efficient with their innovations, then this is where Red Bull’s reduced wind tunnel time, as per the sliding scale of allowance plus their 2021 cost cap penalty, can really start to bite.

If it were a straight fight with all tools equal, then Steiner’s continued hope would likely be in vain, but considering this disadvantage which Red Bull is fighting, it does indeed mean that we should not give up hope of a multi-team battle at the front yet.
