Grand Theft Auto fans believe they have discovered a nod towards GTA 6 in a recent teaser trailer released by Rockstar Games.

The most recent entry in the franchise, GTA V, was released back in 2013, and creators Rockstar have refused to divulge any information about the sequel most people presume is in development.

GTA V, which was remastered for the PS4 and Xbox One consoles back in 2014, will also be arriving on PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles next year, with newly optimised graphics and features.

However, that hasn’t stopped some fans from clinging onto the hope that a GTA 6 announcement is in the near future.

The latest update to GTA Online (entitled The Cayo Perico Heist) was announced via a short teaser video, which did not ostensibly reveal much about the game.

However, at the bottom of the screen, fans noticed a set of co-ordinates.

After inputting the co-ordinates to Google Maps, they were directed to the Middle Mountain Trail, a curved road in Virginia, US.

Many then suggested that from a bird’s-eye perspective, the road strongly resembles the roman numeral “VI”: a likely allusion to the title of the next GTA game.

Fans have debated on Reddit the exact significance of the Easter egg.

Some have suggested that it could mean that the next GTA will be set in a location based on Virginia. Previous games have been set in fictional cities modelled on New York, Los Angeles and Miami.

Others have simply interpreted it as confirmation that a GTA 6 formal announcement is on its way soon. Only time will tell.
