Air Canada has lifted a brief ground stop order that was initiated on Thursday after a widespread technical issue.

Air Canada spokesperson Peter Fitzpatrick said in an emailed statement that the company experienced a temporary technical issue with the communicator system, which is used to communicate with aircraft and monitor operational performance. The airline put a ground stop order in place as a precautionary measure and to help with the reset of the communicator system.

Nav Canada, the non-profit organization that oversees air traffic control in Canada, and the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration issued an advisory at 11:13 a.m. ET of a ground stop for all Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge flights, citing "computer issues."

The ground stop was canceled at 12:08 p.m. ET.

“There have been some delays as a result, but the system is now returning to normal and the precautionary ground stop has been lifted,” Fitzpatrick said.
