Grey's Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo has revealed what kind of scenes she's no longer willing to do.

She's played the iconic Dr Meredith Grey for over 17 years now, wracking up hundreds of episodes in the process, but the level of anguish Pompeo puts her character through has certainly dipped in recent times.

'I find that I don't want to make myself miserable anymore,' she told the Tell Me podcast.

'Like, you know when you have scenes where you have to, let's say like when Derek [Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey] got shot, that's something I remember, like, really vividly.

'Sandra and I — shout out to Sandra Oh, one of the greatest to ever do it — we had to scream and cry and go crazy 30 f**king times. I couldn't do that now, you know? I don't want to!' she reiterated.

The sequence in question unfolded during the two-hour season six finale, airing 12 years ago, when an active gunman who blamed Derek for the death of his wife stalked the hospital corridors.

Pompeo's Meredith and Oh's Cristina Yang witnessed Derek getting shot, but in the fracas, the former tried to sacrifice herself before experiencing a miscarriage.

Meanwhile, there's little to no hope of Oh returning to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, who bowed out as Cristina eight years ago.

'In my mind, it's gone. But for a lot of people, it's still very much alive. And while I understand and I love it, I have moved on,' the star previously said on The Los Angeles Times' Asian Enough podcast.

Sorry, Kevin McKidd.

Grey's Anatomy season 18 airs on ABC in the US. In the UK, seasons 1-16 are streaming on Disney+, while season 18 is available via Sky Witness and NOW.
