Greenford murder probe after woman beaten to death at property in west London

A murder investigation has been launched after a woman was beaten to death in west London.

Metropolitan Police officers found the 62-year-old suffering head injuries at a property in Drew Gardens, Greenford, at about 5pm on Wednesday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her next of kin have been informed and a post-mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

A 31-year-old male has been arrested on suspicion of murder. The victim and suspect are understood to be known to each other.

Chief Superintendent Peter Gardner said: “This is a devastating incident and my thought are with the victim’s family at this difficult time.

“I would like to reassure residents who will have noted a large police presence in the area last night and throughout today. These officers are there to assist with the investigation and also to provide local reassurance and support.”

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding said: “At this early stage we retain an open mind as to motive.

“We encourage anyone who believes they may have information that could assist our investigation to contact us without delay.”
