The Great British Bake Off returned for another celebrity special as Nadine Coyle, John Bishop, Anneka Rice and Ade Adepitan all took part in the Stand Up To Cancer special.

Bake Off viewers and Girls Aloud fans were moved when singer Nadine Coyle appeared to reference her bandmate Sarah Harding’s battle with cancer.

When host Matt Lucas asked Nadine why she was taking part in the show, Nadine said she had a friend who had been diagnosed with the illness.

The singer said, “I have a very close friend at the minute who is suffering from cancer. It’s terrifying, you look at the statistics and the more research there is and the more money and funding there is to do that the better people’s odds are.”

“You never know when the next big breakthrough is going to happen. And hopefully very soon,” she said.

In 2020, Sarah Harding revealed she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was told by doctors she "wouldn’t see another Christmas." Fans were quick to interpret Nadine’s words as a reference to Sarah.

Taking to Twitter they said comments like, “Nadine Coyle doing Bake Off for Sarah Harding is making me tear up,” and “I’m proud of Nadine for taking part. I’m so happy she’s been able to do this and support Sarah.”

In Sarah’s new memoir, Hear Me Out, the former singer says she is, “trying to live and enjoy every second of my life, however long it might be. I’m having a glass of wine during all this because it helps me relax. I’m at a stage now where I don’t know how many months I have left. Who knows, maybe I’ll surprise everyone, but that’s how I’m looking at things."

Nadine and fellow Girls Aloud starts Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl Tweedy and Nicola Roberts all reunited with Sarah following her diagnosis. They have also all written a passage in her memoir.

The Great Celebrity Bake off is available to watch on All 4.
