Good Morning Britain star Charlotte Hawkins has joined the line-up of the new series of Strictly Come Dancing.

She announced the news on Monday morning’s edition of the ITV show.

Ms Hawkins said: “The breaking news is we can announce the 11th contestant to join 'Strictly' is ... me!

“Nobody knows, I’ve kept it a secret from everybody. I’m really sorry to my friends and family. Surprise!”

Ms Hawkins is the eleventh celebrity competitor to be announced.

Unlike Ed Balls, she will not be a complete beginner, telling viewers she danced as a child, including ballet.

She will be dancing off against Simon Rimmer, Ruth Langsford, Joe McFadden, Davood Ghadami, Mollie King, Susan Calman, Gemma Atkinson, Brian Conley, Aston Merrygold and Reverend Richard Coles.

The remaining contestants were announced on Monday evening as TV personality Debbie McGee, singer Alexandra Burke and Paralympian Jonnie Peacock.

The dancing show, which began in 2004, has become a household name in the UK, and features celebrities training with professional dancers and then competing against each other for judges’ points.

The show’s long time judge, Sir Bruce Forsyth, died earlier this week.
