SINGAPORE — The revamped Golden Village (GV) cinema at i12 Katong has reopened, and besides movie screenings, the multiplex is now able to also screen live concerts, host esports events, and hold virtual meetings and conferences.

The cinema reopened on 23 December together with the i12 mall in which it's located, after completing renovation works that took two years.

GV Katong now has six mainstream halls and two premium Gold Class auditoriums which are fitted with reclining leather seats and personal side tables for serving food and drinks.

There is also a Gold Class lounge restaurant which is open to moviegoers and members of the public.

The redesigned cinema facilities are multifunctional, including spaces that will allow for events such as:

  1. GV LIVE – live, in-person musical performances or live screening of international concerts, musicals and entertainment events

  2. Esports – gamers can take part in esports events and competitions

  3. Art – Dedicated lineup of exclusive thematic art exhibits in collaboration with various art galleries with emerging and established artists

  4. Alternative content - Specially-curated content such as screening of interactive movies, independent films and anime movies

In tandem with the cinema's relaunch, GV Katong is screening Korean musical film Phantom: The Musical from 14 January onwards. Based on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Phantom of the Opera, Phantom: The Musical stars Super Junior’s main vocalist Kyuhyun as The Phantom, along with world-famous soprano Sunhae Im and renowned ballerina Joowon Kim.

Gaming fans can look forward to esports content at GV Katong with an onsite showcase planned. The multiplex will partner The Gym by Esportscentre, Singapore’s leading esports production house, to organise events and competitions. The Gym was behind the opening two seasons of MPL Singapore, Singapore’s first professional esports league.

GV Katong is now the first cinema here to incorporate an art gallery. The works of artist Billy Ma, inspired by classic films such as Dirty Dancing and Top Gun, are currently on display and available for purchase on Golden Village’s website.
