Each awards season serves up a number of sartorial trends and we’ve already had our first of 2020 at last night’s Golden Globe Awards: puff sleeves.
The voluminous trend was a hit in 2019, with puff sleeve tops, shirts, blouses and dresses available in more high street stores than you could share a fist at.
Olivia Colman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jodie Comer and Dakota Fanning were among celebrities who worked the trend on the Golden Globes red carpet in California.
Colman wore a red Emilia Wickstead gown, which boasted balloon sleeves, a turtle neck and tie detail at the back.
Fanning looked ethereal in a lilac Dior Haute Couture number, which also featured puff sleeves, plait detail around the hem, as well as a wrap front across the bust.
Meanwhile, ‘Killing Eve’ star Comer opted for an emerald green, satin frock with oversized sleeves by London-based designer Mary Katrantzou.
Other stars who worked the trend included ‘The Politician’ and ‘Vampire Academy’ actor Zoe Deutch, who hit a style high note in Fendi, and Kaitlyn Dever, who was nominated for her role in Netflix mini-series ‘Unbelievable’.
American actor and singer, best known for her role in Broadway’s ‘Ghost the Musical’ was a vision in a fuchsia gown, complete with billowing, off-the-shoulder sleeves.
For those who want to make like the A-listers and emulate the look, we have found the best affordable puff sleeve dresses for you to wear this year.
