The Golden Globes 2013 was predicted to be a riot of colour by fashion critics, but in reality only a few stars were brave enough to debut the trend.
Jessica Chastain, Nicole Richie and Thandie Newton were just some of the A-listers who wowed us with their decision to wear pastel on the red carpet tonight, showing off a variety of fashion-forward looks.
While the likes of Jennifer Lawrence and Claire Danes overlooked the red carpet rule to never wear red on the carpet, it was up to other actresses to showcase the colour pop explosion expected for spring summer 13.
Actress-turned-fashion-designer Nicole Richie was arguably the most daring star in pastel blue, stepping out in a floor-scraping flesh coloured creation encrusted in baby-blue jewels and accents.
With pearl embellishments around the neckline, her Naeem Khan dress hugged the mother-of-two's slimline figure and pooled at the floor.
Nicole's choice of matching blue liner gave the dress a really modern feel, with brushed nude lips helping to highlight the trend.
Another star dazzling us in blue - or as she described, 'seafoam' - was Jessica Chastain, who pulled the look off despite us fearing for a clash with her red hair.
The American starlet showcased a halterneck gown with a plunging neckline, cut away to reveal the top of her back.
With delicate, drop diamond earrings and tousled locks pinned back from her face, Jessica added rose-coloured lips to complete her look.
The always fashion-forward Thandie Newton clearly got the memo to inject some colour on the awards season red carpets too, wowing us in a sheer, jewel-encrusted version with frilled edges.
The star's dress featured a high neck with a scattered pattern of jewels over a sheer top, with a mini skirt of a delicate pastel purple hue.
Thandie's stylish dress was teamed with matching light-purple strapped stilettos and a suede blush handbag.
Elsewhere on the Golden Globes red carpet tonight, Rosario Dawson showed off a pastel gown with a take on the peplum trend.
The Sin City star opted for the baby-blue floor-sweeping pillar dress, with an asymmetric neckline and tiered peplum at the waist.
Fashion critics applauded the stars who opted for colour on the Globes red carpet, which is considered as a precursor to the Oscars 2013.
