GMB's Susanna Reid breaks silence on Kate Garraway's heartbreaking Derek admission
Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid was all about lifting her co-star Kate Garraway up after Kate's heartfelt confession last week.
On the Monday show (September 9), Susanna, alongside Ed Balls, dived into the day's top news and entertainment stories from the UK and around the world. Later, they chatted with actor Richard Armitage about his National Television Award nomination.
Wrapping up the chat, Ed and Susanna gave a shout-out to Kate, who's also in the running for an award. Kate has been open with viewers about her family's challenges since her husband Derek fell ill with COVID-19 in 2020.
Encouraging viewers to support Kate, Ed announced: "You can also vote for our Kate Garraway's Derek story which is also up for an award this week, so that would be good." Susanna chimed in with praise: "It's a wonderful documentary," reports the Mirror.
Despite the warm words from her colleagues about the documentary 'Kate Garraway: Derek's Story', Kate herself revealed why she's kept quiet about her nomination online.

In a frank moment on Thursday's Good Morning Britain (September 5), Kate shared: "I haven't posted I've been nominated yet because I got so much backlash from doing it, for people saying 'stop going on about it'. But actually, I realise I'm letting people down."
The 57 year old opened up about her late husband's struggles, saying: "One of the biggest frustrations was that he felt like a total failure, he felt like an incredible burden on the carers, on the system, on us and it didn't matter what we said, he felt that burden, and he wanted to be a contributor," she explained.
"Making this documentary was his way of saying 'I'm gonna speak up for the people that have supported me, the family but also those around me and the people within the care system."
She continued: "It's wonderful to have the chance to honour him and also honour the millions. I'm sad because I don't have the chance to care anymore but I felt it would be wrong for me to sort of walk away from the caring campaign that I feel I have a responsibility for."
Derek Draper, who had a career as a political lobbyist and psychotherapist, sadly passed away in January 2024, nearly four years after contracting Covid-19. In the wake of his passing, Kate Garraway took a leave of absence to spend time with her family, before making her return to television on Good Morning Britain.
