Like most college students, Clarity Engels has a lot of aspirations and she’s not shy about sharing them. The 19-year-old from Boulder, Colorado would like to be a humanitarian lawyer one day and had dreams of getting involved in politics. Recently, some of those dreams were shot down thanks to some nasty comments on social media.

“People are going to see THAT when you apply for jobs,” one commenter wrote on a photo of Engels in a bikini. “If you’re really serious about having a career, you won’t post pictures like that,” wrote another. A third warned, “Didn’t you want to be a politician? Not with that photo!”

“I’m not afraid to post pictures on my social media accounts of myself in a bikini, and so I do,” Engel says in an article for The Tab. “But, with every ‘sexy’ picture I post, comes a new critique. With how vocal I am about my future career, people feel the need to lecture me about how pictures like that will get me in trouble in the long run.”

Instead of letting these comments get to her, Engel decided to fight back.

“As I began to further look into this controversial topic, I found that men mostly, were the ones making the degrading comments to women, even though they faced no backlash when posting pictures of themselves in Speedos or, in many male celebrities cases, nude for magazines,“ she tells the Mirror. "I felt a duty to my fellow women to speak out against this issue and common double-standard.”

To make her point, Engel posted even more shots of herself in a bikini instead of being bullied into pulling down the ones she had up before. This time, she also had a message.

“It’s been long enough that women have been told to cover themselves or that their curves aren’t beautiful and we’ve had it!” she writes.

“Follow @shamelesslysexybabes and submit your #shamelesslysexy pic!”
