Girl, 18, who stabbed boyfriend through heart in 'fit of anger' receives life sentence for murder
An 18-year-old woman has been sentenced to life imprisonment after stabbing her boyfriend through the chest ‘in a fit of anger’.
Martyna Ogonowska, 18, killed boyfriend Filip Jaskiewicz, 23, with a single stab to his heart, following an argument in Peterborough on October 21, 2018.
Ogonowska, of Victoria Place, Peterborough, Cambridgeshire was sentenced at 2.50pm on Thursday.
Judge Farrell handed her a sentence of custody for life with a minimum of 17 years.
She was also given an 18 month sentence for the possession of a bladed article, which will run concurrently.
Prosecutor Andrew Jackson told jurors how the couple had met three days earlier.
The court heard how the pair went out with Ogonowska's friends at the Solstice Bar, before returning to the victim’s car when an argument broke out over his driving.
When Mr Jaskiewicz parked his car on Oakdale road in Stanground, Ogonowska stabbed him as he looked at his mobile phone.
The victim was discovered in his car by members of the public and was declared dead at around 7am.
Ogonowska denied murder but admitted to stabbing the victim through his chest.
She claimed to have forgotten she had a knife in her hand during the argument.
DCI Adam Gallop of Cambridgeshire Police said: ‘This is a tragic case which once again shows the potentially lethal consequences of carrying a knife.
‘Ogonowska had taken the kitchen knife out with her and then into the car where it was eventually used.
‘Once she had stabbed Filip she ran and made no attempt to alert emergency services, so leaving him to die.
‘Filip’s family are devastated by his death but I hope the fact that justice has today been done may help them in some way to live with their loss and grief.’
