  • Gillian Anderson has reportedly split with her boyfriend of four years, creator of The Crown Peter Morgan, after four years together.

  • Reports suggest that the relationship ran its course, with work commitments and family logistics also playing a part.

The Crown's Gillian Anderson has reportedly split from series creator, Peter Morgan, with whom she has been in a relationship for four years. According to The Mail Online who broke the news late last night, the former couple remain amicable.

Anderson and Morgan were first linked in 2016, after they attended a party in New York to promote The Crown where she was heard telling friends that they were in a relationship. Since then, they've been seen at a number of events together and have walked several red carpets as a couple.

In January of this year Anderson spoke to The Times about the relationship, telling the publication why the pair choose not to live together.

"If we did [live together], that would be the end of us. It works so well as it is, it feels so special when we do come together. And when I am with my kids, I can be completely there for them," she explained.

" It’s exciting. We choose when to be together. There is nothing locking us in, nothing that brings up that fear of 'Oh gosh, I can't leave because what will happen to the house, how will we separate?'. I start to miss the person I want to be with, which is a lovely feeling. And it is so huge for me to be able to see a pair of trousers left lying on the floor at my partner’s house and to step over them and not feel it is my job to do something about it!"

Morgan is currently finalising scripts for the fifth and penultimate series of The Crown, meanwhile Anderson is filming season 3 of Sex Education, in which she plays Jean Milburn a sex therapist and mother of lead character Otis.
