  • The actor introduced her "new gf" on social media over the weekend.

The Crown and Sex Education star Gillian Anderson has seemingly just responded to the news she recently split from boyfriend of four years, The Crown director Peter Morgan.

Gillian and Peter were first linked in 2016 after they attended a party in New York to promote The Crown where she was heard telling friends they were in a relationship. Since then, they had been seen at a number of events together and have walked several red carpets as a couple.

While always relatively low-key about their romance, in January the actor spoke to The Times about the relationship, telling the publication why the pair chose not to live together. In November, she also opened up to Harper's Bazaar about what it was like working together on The Crown.

But despite the more recent comments about their relationship, last week it was reported the pair had called time on their four-year relationship, though neither Gillian or Peter had publicly addressed the news - until now.

Over the weekend, Sex Education star Gillian shared a picture of herself cuddling an adorable dog. "Meet my new gf Stella," she captioned it. The actor, who is already a dog mum to a bulldog called Nelson, presumably named the new pet after her character in The Fall, Stella Gibson.

The Daily Mail, who was first to report the split news, didn't give a reason for the break up but said the pair are still on good terms.
