Posing for photos alongside the likes of Taylor Swift, Ruby Rose, Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge, Adwoa Aboah and Kendall Jenner, you'd be forgiven for thinking model Gigi Hadid isn't exactly struggling when it comes to making friends.

However, in her cover interview for Harper's Bazaar's July issue, the 22-year-old model has opened up about how her growing popularity and success in the fashion industry has been at the detriment of her friendships.

When you become more high-profile, she admits, 'a lot of interesting things in friends come out. So in a way it's good because you learn that it's better to have a few really good friends than tons of friends you aren't really sure about'.

Discussing friends who have failed to understand the demands of her career, the model – who earned a whopping £6.9 million in 2016, according to Forbes – reveals:

'There are people who understand that I love them and who know that when I get back to town I'm going to call them, but sometimes I can't call every day because I'm in weird places. I've lost a lot of friends because I'll get busy for a short period of time, and they're not reaching out, but if I don't reach out, then it's like I've changed,' she adds.

Fortunately for the British Fashion Council's 2016 International Model of the Year, her supermodel sister, Bella, is a constant source of support and friendship.

'She's so understanding of the demands of this job, and it's really great that I can talk to her about it.

'Because a lot of the time I feel suffocated by my own work ethic and by the expectations I put on myself. It's really nice when you have people who say, 'It's okay to take time for yourself'.' she explains.

However, Gigi – who is currently dating ELLE's 2016 September cover star, Zayn Malik and recently told us about the pressure of being perfect and putting positive energy into first impressions – can count on one friend, in particular, who is always will to make time for her friendship and understand her busy lifestyle.

The friend? Oh, you know, just Taylor Swift.

Describing her close bond with Hadid, the 27-year-old singer revealed to the publication: 'As a friend, Gigi is one of the first people I go to for advice.

'She has this incredible ability to see all sides of a situation and simplify it for you, to see the complexity of people…Gigi's #1 rule is to treat people the way she'd want to be treated, so she's on time (or early) to work, says hello to everyone on set, asks them how they are, and actually listens to their response.

'She is an innately kind and inclusive person who has managed to become a huge power player and businesswoman without ever compromising that,' she admits.

It appears Gigi has learned that it's better to have a few strong friendships than lots of weak relationships.
