Juan Alessi, who worked for Epstein for over a decade, yesterday told a New York court of how he would see girls around the late financier’s Palm Beach home who appeared to be underage, including Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

He recalled seeing Ms Maxwell, 59, approaching Ms Giuffre while she was leaving Donald Trump’s resort, Mar-a-Lago, where she had been working in the spa, “sometime in 2001”.

“We were driving up the ramp when Ms Maxwell said ‘John, stop’ when she saw this girl coming down the ramp,” Mr Alessi said, telling the court the couple called him by the Anglicised version of his name. Ms Giuffre and Ms Maxwell talked and went back into the spa together, with Ms Maxwell emerging a short while later alone, said Mr Alessi, who also acted as a chauffeur.

He saw her just hours later. Ms Giuffre, who is not among the four accuser in Ms Maxwell's indictment, appeared at the house where she says she was abused by Epstein.

He said he was told by Ms Maxwell on a later occasion to pick up Ms Giuffre and bring her to the Palm Beach house.

Ms Giuffre was 16 at the time, however when asked how old she looked to him, Mr Alessi guessed “14 or 15”. “She had long blonde hair and a long white outfit like a nurse’s uniform.”

Mr Alessi said he saw Ms Giuffre, now 38, around the house after that on a few occasions with her boyfriend. He says Ms Maxwell told him to ask the boyfriend to wait outside in the car.

Ms Giuffre has brought a civil lawsuit against the Duke in New York for sexual abuse and battery. He has denied the allegations.

Ms Maxwell, the 59-year-old British socialite, has denied charges of trafficking minors, but Mr Alessi claimed he picked up young girls on her orders. The court also heard that Ms Maxwell and Epstein “constantly flew other girls” to the financier’s mansion.

He also recalled being instructed by Ms Maxwell to pick up the accuser known as Jane, who was 14 at the time and alleged on Tuesday she was molested by Epstein and Ms Maxwell with sex toys.

Mr Alessi, who said he often worked 16-hour days, said he was given a household manual by Ms Maxwell of how Epstein and the British heiress liked the mansion to be kept.

The manual said he needed to “anticipate the needs of Mr Epstein and Ms Maxwell”.

“Remember that you see nothing, hear nothing, say nothing. Respect their privacy,” read another bullet point.

In a remarkable afternoon of testimony, a copy of Ms Maxwell and Epstein’s famous “little black book” containing “hundreds of hundreds” of names and contact details of friends of the pair was introduced into evidence.

The book included the names and contacts of people that the house staff would ring to organise massages for Epstein.

Mr Alessi claimed that he laid out “exotic oils” which had been bought by Ms Maxwell in Epstein’s bathroom for the massage sessions.

Mr Alessi said that Epstein regularly had three massages a day from three different women. One in the morning, one in the afternoon and one at 10 or 11pm in the evening “after he had been to the movies.” He said that they were organised by Epstein himself, or by Ms Maxwell.

Afterwards, his job was to clean up the room. He said on multiple occasions he said found a sex toy in the room, which he was instructed to put in a wicker basket in Ms Maxwell’s wardrobe “where it was kept”. Also in the basket were pornographic tapes and a black leather costume, he said.

Mr Alessi also noted that there were “many photographs of topless women on Ms Maxwell’s desk” which he said appeared to be taken around the pool at the Palm Beach home. The only person he ever saw with a camera was Ms Maxwell, he said.

The court also heard on Thursday that Ms Maxwell and Jeffrey Epstein “constantly flew other girls” to the financier’s Palm Beach mansion.

Mr Alessi, who worked for Epstein between 1991 and 2002, described Ms Maxwell as Epstein’s girlfriend and said she was with him "95 per cent of the time," and that they would spend “almost every weekend” in Palm Beach, usually jetting in on a Thursday or Friday and flying out on a Monday or Tuesday.

Mr Alessi said that Ms Maxwell introduced herself as “the lady of the house.”

Asked to describe who else was at the property, Mr Alessi said that his wife was also a staff member, while there were “other girls constantly flying with Ms Maxwell and Mr Epstein to the house.”

Mr Alessi interacted with Ms Maxwell on “a daily basis,” he said, adding that she would call him John, even though his name was Juan.

Mr Alessi said that during his time working for Mr Epstein he saw topless women lounging around the pool “hundreds of times”.

“There were many many females,” he said. “Most of them appeared to be in their late 20s or 20s.”

Sat next to her lawyers wearing a black roll-neck top and black face mask, Ms Maxwell looked severe and rubbed her arms to try and warm herself up.

Before the session started she had a long conversation with her brother Kevin, who has flown from the UK to New York in a show of solidarity.

On Wednesday night, he expressed his “tremendous relief” at being able to see his sister in person for the first time in more than 500 days, but hit out at the jail conditions she is facing.

He said Ms Maxwell was “looking pretty well, notwithstanding the conditions of detention, which are now the subject of a formal complaint to the United Nations committee on arbitrary detention.”

Inside courtroom 318 at the Thurgood Marshall United States Courthouse, Mr Alessi detailed a “hectic” routine in which he was sometimes given just a few hours notice that Epstein was flying in. Mr Alessi said that there were “extensive preparations” which included changing the sheets in all the bedrooms, preparing food, cleaning the cars and making sure each one was left with a $100 note inside.

“It had to be immaculate. It was run like a five star hotel,” Mr Alessi said.

Ms Maxwell, who has been accused of sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at the property, along with Mr Epstein “mentioned that she was the lady of the house,” Mr Alessi said.

Outlining his relationship with Mr Epstein, Mr Alessi said that it changed over time, and eventually Ms Maxwell told him that he should only speak to the financier when spoken to and never to make eye contact with him.

The full indictment against the Ms Maxwell lists six charges, including conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sex acts and conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

Ms Maxwell is also accused of transporting a minor with the intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, sex trafficking conspiracy, and sex trafficking of a minor.

She is further alleged to have lied under oath by hiding her participation in Epstein’s offences during a separate civil case.

Ms Maxwell denies all the charges.
