If you struggled to get hold of a breadmaker during the height of lockdown, we have some good news: all of the GHI’s top-performers are now back in stock – and we even spotted a discount on the runner-up model on Amazon.
The Morphy Richards Homebake scored 88/100. This is just one mark less than the winner but, overall, it works out as £165 cheaper. So, we think it’s well worth taking advantage of this deal if you’ve been looking to invest in a breadmaker.
The team loved this model, describing it as a joy to use. It’s Morphy Richards’ most high-end breadmaker and has 14 different settings – including a gluten-free option and those for non-bread recipes, like cakes, yoghurt and jam.
On test, it made a near-perfect wholemeal loaf; light and springy with a crisp crust and an authentic farmhouse bread flavour. White bread was also good, although it fared better when using the small setting than the larger one.
In fact, testers felt there were plenty of positives, praising how the bread pan automatically unlocks when baking has finished, the responsive touchscreen and the choice of crusts (light, medium and dark), as well as the bread itself. It also made a great ruby red jam with a lovely fresh flavour.
There weren’t many dislikes either. There’s no ingredient dispenser, but it will alert you with a noise when it’s time to add extra ingredients, so it’s not really a problem. The team also thought the viewing window could be a little larger, but some of the models tested didn’t even have a viewing window at all, so it’s still a bonus that it has one to begin with.
All in all, we think this is a great deal on a top-performing and very versatile model. If you like the idea of enjoying some proper fresh bread every morning while you’re still working from home (and that accompanying gorgeous baking smell) then we think this is a great offer to take advantage of.
